The Pony Express.

Cowboy Campground hosted their second annual Pony Express Race.  In case you are not sure what that means, here is a definition.  The Pony Express Race is a timed event that explores the partnership between a horseperson and their equine mount. A cross-country obstacle challenge, the Pony Express Race tests the courage of the rider and confidence of the horse, demonstrates the versatility of the team and their ability to conquer the unknown, and finally is a testament to their physical and mental endurance as they battle through a multitude of challenges interwoven through a beautiful cross country track.

Sidney missed last year's event and was not going to make that same mistake again.  Her and Jayde woke up at 5 am to head up to Idaho City.  They were going to compete in a three person team with Noel.  Sabrina had the place all decked out, of course!

The participants got to walk their horses together through the course, before the race began.

The girls were in it to win it.  They wanted the buckle so badly.  There were nine teams competing.  Noel looked at the list and told the girls that the competition was fierce that they should compete hard but know that there were some very intense riders.

The race starts with the first rider ringing the bell and ends when the third rider rings it at the end.  Jayde and Kaycee went first, followed by Sidney and Pigeon.  Noel and Maize took up the final leg.

At the awards ceremony, Sidney said she was literally shaking with anticipation.  When Sabrina called out the scores, she started with the lower scores.  When she got to second place and Sidney's team was not called, she could not contain her excitement.  Yes, they took first place.  It is Sidney's first buckle and Jayde's as well.  These girls were so excited, and it was extra special that they earned it together.  Neither of these girls grew up in horse families.  They have worked hard and played a lot of catch up. Well earned ladies!
