Sidney and Pigeon did their second jump show this winter. They came into the show with so much confidence after the first show. Pigeon flew over the ground poles and cross rails this time. They place third and fourth in those events, respectively.
They were doing so well that Noel signed them up for 2'3". The thing about going to the next height is that it is not only 3 inches higher, they add a few challenges. One of the challenges is oxers. This is where they put two sets of standards and poles close together, which adds depth to the jump. They also add planks to some jumps, which give the feeling of jumping over a wall.
Noel laughed and told Sidney not to look. As soon as she did look, she offered to let Noel borrow her helmet and horse and do the pattern for her. Nope. Not happening. I must admit I was a bit nervous for them. This is something neither of them had ever tried.
Here they are on jump number three. They were doing great!
Jump number four they did amazing, but Pigeon managed to catch his hind foot on the back oxer. No problem though, as Sidney did not even notice.
The real test came with jump number five. The planks. I posted a few pictures to show the hilarity of it all. Pigeon looked like he was going to put the brakes on and refuse the jump.
At the last moment, he decided to go for it.
Sidney and Noel are convinced that as much as he wanted to refuse the jump, he is too prideful to do so. The crowd went nuts after that jump. I was a bit worried that they would 'fold like a taco' (in the words of Matt Z) after that. But, no! They rounded the corner and took jump number six like champions! It was insane.
They took fourth place in that event. Time wise, they had the best time. However, they got fault points for hitting jumps four and five. It was so amazing and fun to watch!
