Two Teenagers? Oh My!

Well, I am not quite sure how this happened so fast, but Sidney turned 13 this month.  Yep, 2 teenage girls under one roof.  She seemed to have a 3 day celebration, which started on Friday with horse riding galore.  She spent both her morning and evening riding with friends.

On Saturday, we had the grandparents over to celebrate both Grandma Karen's and Sidney's birthdays.  Grandma Terrell made a DELICIOUS cake with whipped cream cheese frosting.  Since the birthday girls got to pick their pieces,  the cake looked slightly funny after their pieces were cut out of it.

It is always fun to watch these ladies sing happy birthday to each other, while we try to keep up.

My dad always the trooper.  He knows what it is like to have two teenage girls.

I love these young ladies.

On Sunday, Sidney and a couple of her friends went on a trail ride with Alyssa.  I thought it quite hilarious that when they were leaving, Alyssa was in the front seat all by herself.  The girls were piled in the back seat together.

After the trail ride, we went to Ling and Louie's for lunch.  It is Sid's favorite place to eat.  We had the most amazing waiter.  He enjoyed the girls and went the extra mile to see to it that they had a good time.  The girls ordered fancy drinks and we started off with a toast to the birthday girl.

Yep, we completely embarrassed Sid by letting the waiter know that it was her birthday.  The whole restaurant joined in song, while she died of embarrassment.

After lunch, the girls came to our house and did as much as they could pack into the couple hours they had.  Biking, swimming in the kiddie pool with dogs, crafting, etc.

Oh, and one more dessert.  Wow, the sugar!  Sidney kept blowing out the candle faster than Kendall could light it.

Twin Lakes 2021.

No trip to North Idaho is complete without a walk to Twin Lakes.  We always like to stop by the pond on the golf course and feed the fish.

The fish in this pond are absolutely HUGE!  They were competing with the ducks for food.

After that, we walked over to the park for a bit.  This little park has the best amenities.  I snapped this beautiful picture of Kendall on the swings.

Grandma Terrell had volunteered to watch Bailey and Sam, so we decided to take Bella with us on her first big road trip.  She did amazing and slept like a champ after this afternoon of fun.  I almost thought we would have to carry her on the walk home, but she pulled through.

Celebrating Hallie and Jonny.

After a couple days at home, just enough time to wash our clothes and repack, we were off to North Idaho to celebrate Hallie and Jonny's wedding.  Hallie had a beautiful bridal shower at my sister's house.

It was quite fun to engage the girls in 'What should we get Hallie for her bridal shower?".  We settled on this beautiful white and smoky gray gown and matching robe.

My sister looked stunning.

This group of ladies was amazing.  It was a great night of celebration.  Sidney even won the game 'who knows Hallie best'.  The questions were super hard.  We were all shocked she got the most answers right.  My sister nailed it though, by stating that Sid is very quiet.  She often just sits and really listens.

The beautiful couple said their vows on the docks of the Coeur d'Alene Lake as the sun set.

The following evening, my sister hosted an amazing reception at their house.  We celebrated with delicious prime rib and smoked chicken.  Everyone danced the night away.

Summer Vacation Part 7 (Shell Beach and Morro Bay).

We went to Shell Beach one evening.  The girl's phones were completely dead from picture taking and mine had about only 5% battery left.  Thankfully, I had just enough battery life to capture this amazing sunset.  It was awesome, as we stayed there for about an hour and watched the entire thing.

On our last day, we headed up to Morro Bay.  Morro Bay is a true fishing down.  Fishing boats are everywhere and if you look around the back of the restaurants on the piers, you can see them unloading right off the boats.

We got a selfie with Morro Rock.

We captured another selfie with the smokestacks in the background.  Both of these places are pretty iconic for the town.

Morro Bay is also known for sea otters.  We were not able to spot any otters, but Sidney spotted a sea lion swimming around the piers.

We managed to see this friendly lion practicing his morning yoga routine.

The girls were thrilled to get such a great view of the lion in his natural habitat.

This was definitely a vacation to remember.  It was filled with so many old memories, as well as new memories in the making.  We even managed to drop in on a roping contest at the Madonna Inn.  Sidney was absolutely thrilled.  She was also thrilled to learn that Cal Poly has a rodeo team.

Summer Vacation Part 6 (Avila Barn and the Bob Jones Trail).

One of my favorite things is the Avila Valley Barn.  This is such a fun place to visit.  It is essentially a really  nice fruit/veggie stand complete with farm animals.

This one if for Aunt Stephie.

While the girls sept in most mornings, I either went to yoga or walked on the Bob Jones Trail.  I did not get any yoga pics, but did manage to become a selfie queen on the Bob Jones Trail.  This trail is a nice easy 6 mile, out and back trail.  The trail head starts near the Avila Barn and ends at the Avila Pier.

Summer Vacation Part 5 (Avila Beach).

Avila Beach is a super awesome beach town nestled between Pismo and San Luis Obispo.  It turned out to be one of our favorites.  There are a few not so well known things about Avila Beach.  When we lived there, it was completely flattened, meaning all of the buildings had been removed to remediate an oil spill.  To walk through Avila Beach today, one would never know.  It is thriving.  I put an article hear that talks about it:  Avila Beach Oil Spill

Another crazy thing that happened while we were there, was a Fatal Shark Attack occurred.  Kevin actually knew the lady that died in the attack.  It stunned the locals.

The girl's had this dream of wearing beautiful, flowy dresses and running into the ocean.  In anticipation of these, they each bought a flowy dress before the vacation.

Before you see the pictures below, I would like to let you know that it was FREEZING the evening they did this photo shoot / run in to the ocean.  I was bunded up with coat and blanket in my beach chair.  I am pretty sure they were having so much fun, they did not even notice it was cold.

There they go.  Photo shoot done.  Now time for a soak.

Here they come, super victorious!

Since they were already soaked, they decided to just take of their dresses and go for it.  They had come prepared with swimsuits underneath.
